Maintainer activity

1 person did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

Roughly one issue in four opened in the past year never receives a reply. 73% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. 83% of tracked open issues have had no activity in three months, so the open count overstates what is actively being worked. Only 38% of issues opened in the past year have been closed. Three people close 91% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

SoundThread is a node-based graphical interface for The Composers Desktop Project, a suite of command-line tools for experimental sound design and music composition.

SoundThread addresses the steep learning curve of CDP's command-line interface by providing a visual node-based patching system. Users connect CDP processes together in a modular workflow, allowing audio to flow through chains of transformations. The tool handles the underlying complexity of invoking CDP's hundreds of processes, managing file conversions between mono and stereo formats, and generating the breakpoint files needed for parameter automation. This approach makes experimental sound processing accessible to users unfamiliar with terminal-based workflows while preserving access to CDP's deep sound manipulation capabilities.

The tool suits sound designers and composers exploring musique concrète techniques, particularly those new to experimental processing who would benefit from visual feedback. It works well in hybrid studio environments where CDP processes complement other audio software. The project implements over one hundred popular CDP processes covering both time-domain and frequency-domain transformations, supports automation through drawn curves, and allows saving and loading of processing chains for reuse. SoundThread runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, accepting stereo or mono input files and handling the necessary format conversions automatically.

Development activity shows consistent engagement with user feedback and incremental feature expansion. The project maintains a public roadmap of planned improvements and actively addresses reported issues. Documentation includes video tutorials covering installation and basic workflows, alongside in-application help tooltips and detailed reference materials. The codebase demonstrates ongoing refinement of the node-based interface and expansion of the available process library.
