Graphite is a free, open source vector and raster graphics editor that combines layer-based compositing with a node-based procedural graphics engine for 2D content creation.

The tool addresses the need for nondestructive editing workflows in graphics design by building its architecture around a node graph core rather than following the conventional destructive editing model of traditional creative applications. Users work with both traditional layer-based compositing and procedural node-based generative design, allowing them to create and modify graphics while preserving the ability to adjust earlier steps in the workflow.
