Detailed Description

Wholphin is an open-source Android TV client for Jellyfin that provides an alternative interface inspired by Plex for users migrating from proprietary media servers.

The tool addresses the need for a Jellyfin client with a distinct user experience on Android TV and Fire TV devices. Rather than forking the official client, Wholphin rebuilds the interface and controls from scratch, offering a Plex-inspired design philosophy. It supports media playback through either ExoPlayer or MPV, giving users flexibility in their playback engine choice.

Wholphin suits users who prefer a customizable home page experience, with the ability to arrange content rows, combine watching lists, pin collections and playlists, and quickly access libraries through a navigation drawer. The tool includes features like Seerr integration for content discovery, customizable library layouts with grid or list options, subtitle search and download capabilities, multiple color themes, and per-user language settings. It is available through both the Google Play Store and Amazon AppStore, making it accessible on a wide range of Android TV and Fire TV devices.

Development activity shows consistent engagement with the project. The codebase receives regular updates addressing user-reported issues and feature requests. Translation support is actively maintained through community contributions. The project demonstrates responsiveness to user feedback through bug fixes and incremental feature additions across releases.
