Detailed Description

AnimeX is a self-hosted anime management system that aggregates content from Mikan Project and Bangumi.tv with support for multiple storage backends.

The system solves the problem of organizing, discovering, and streaming anime by combining RSS feeds from Mikan Project for new releases with metadata and rankings from Bangumi.tv. It automatically parses episode information and magnet links from RSS updates, then organizes discovered content across configurable storage backends including PikPak, 115 cloud storage, local directories via Aria2, and NAS mounts. Users can browse new season schedules, rankings, and categories, while the system maintains a unified playback interface and media library with cover art and descriptions pulled from Bangumi.tv.

The tool suits self-hosted deployments where users want centralized anime discovery and playback without relying on external streaming services. It works best for those comfortable managing storage backends and running Docker containers. The permission system distinguishes it from simpler media servers by supporting admin and regular user roles, with regular users able to request downloads that admins approve before automatic submission to storage. The project targets users who want both automated episode tracking and manual curation through an admin panel covering user management, invitation codes, download requests, storage configuration, and system monitoring.

The codebase uses Go for the backend with a Vue-based frontend and Node.js build tooling. Development maintains active integration with external services through HTTP proxy support and caching layers via Redis and MySQL, with graceful degradation when Redis becomes unavailable. The project supports a wide range of video formats and handles complex media structures including multi-season collections and nested folder hierarchies during library scanning.
