Maintainer activity

1 person did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

About 3% of issues opened in the past year have never received a reply. Only 16% of open issues come from outside the core team — the tracker reads mainly as internal planning. Work labelled "network" is answered fastest, typically in under an hour, while "win32" waits about 3 days. 95% of issues opened in the past year have since been closed. Three people close 95% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

Xpra is a remote application and screen-sharing tool that allows you to run X11 programs on a remote host, display them locally, and disconnect and reconnect without losing application state.

The tool solves the problem of maintaining persistent remote graphical application sessions across network disconnections. It works by forwarding individual X11 application windows to a local machine rather than streaming an entire desktop, which it calls seamless mode. Beyond individual applications, it can also shadow existing desktop sessions or start full remote desktop sessions. The server includes a built-in HTML5 client, and the tool adapts to various network protocols and conditions.

Xpra suits developers and system administrators who need reliable remote access to graphical applications with session persistence, particularly in environments where network interruptions are common. It works well for teams needing to access applications across different machines without losing work state. The tool integrates remote applications transparently by forwarding desktop features including audio, printers, clipboard, system trays, notifications, webcams, and file transfers. It also handles high bit depth content and display DPI settings. The project provides official packages for Windows, macOS, and Linux distributions, with both stable and LTS builds available.

The project maintains active development with regular updates across its codebase. The tool receives consistent improvements to its core networking and display forwarding systems. Documentation is actively maintained with detailed guides covering usage modes, features, and platform support. The project sustains a multi-platform release strategy with signed packages distributed across Windows, macOS, and Linux ecosystems.
