Maintainer activity

3 people did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 11, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

Roughly one issue in four opened in the past year never receives a reply. 100% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. Work labelled "Confirmed" is answered fastest, typically in about 13 hours, while "Level Editor" waits about 4 months. 61% of tracked open issues have had no activity in three months, so the open count overstates what is actively being worked. 69% of issues opened in the past year have been closed, leaving a working backlog.

Detailed Description

Super Mario Bros. Remastered is a fan remake of the original Super Mario Bros. games built in Godot that recreates multiple titles from the series alongside new content and modding tools.

The project recreates Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. Special, and All Night Nippon: Super Mario Bros. from the ground up with improved physics and level design. It provides a level editor and custom level system that integrates with Level Share Square for sharing user-created content. The tool supports resource packs for full visual and audio customization, custom character creation, and portable mode operation. The entire codebase is open source and built on Godot, allowing developers to import and modify the project directly.

This project suits enthusiasts who want to experience classic Mario games with enhanced mechanics and community-created content, or modders interested in studying and extending a complete game implementation. It requires an original Super Mario Bros. NES ROM to function and explicitly does not replace the official games, which remain available through Nintendo Switch Online. The open source nature makes it valuable for learning how platformer mechanics are implemented in Godot, and the level editor enables non-programmers to create and share custom levels.

The project accepts pull requests for fixes and improvements with stated rapid review. Issue reports are restricted to bug reports only, with feature requests and suggestions explicitly discouraged. Known physics issues exist around corner interactions and camera barriers, along with rendering jitter in certain conditions, attributed to underlying Godot engine behavior rather than the project itself.
