How this project is maintained

Roughly one issue in three opened in the past year never receives a reply. 100% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. Almost all tracked open issues have seen activity in the last three months. Only 40% of issues opened in the past year have been closed. Three people close 77% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

DroidDeck is an Android application that brings the SteamOS experience to Adreno handheld devices by running Valve's Steam client in Big Picture mode alongside Windows games through Valve's ARM64 Proton.

The tool solves the problem of playing Windows games on Android handhelds by packaging Valve's Steam client and Proton compatibility layer into a single APK. It runs a Linux runtime on supported Adreno devices, allowing users to access Steam's Big Picture interface and launch Windows games compiled for ARM64. The approach requires no root access and handles the necessary system configuration automatically, including disabling child process restrictions when needed.

Adoption suits users with Adreno 730 or newer devices (or 8xx series) running Android 9 or later who want to play Windows games on their handheld. The tool requires approximately 4 GB of storage for the runtime, desktop, and emulators. Mali, Xclipse, PowerVR, and Adreno 710 devices are unsupported. Desktop compositing uses software rendering, which may impact performance. Firefox sandboxing is reduced when running under proot. The project does not maintain a standalone website; official releases come only from the GitHub repository.

Development activity shows consistent engagement with the community through an active Discord server where users report devices, access preview builds, and file bug reports with session logs. The build system is containerized with Docker and requires Java 17 alongside the Android SDK and NDK, allowing developers to compile the ARM64 audio sinks from PulseAudio 13.0 and package them into release APKs. The project maintains documentation of hardware limitations and compatibility variations across devices, acknowledging that validation remains incomplete.
