Detailed Description

InstaGraph is a Flask application that converts text input or URLs into knowledge graphs and displays them visually.

The tool addresses the challenge of understanding relationships between entities in complex topics by using OpenAI's GPT-3.5 to extract entities and their connections from text, then rendering them as color-coded, interactive knowledge graphs. Users input text or a URL through a web interface, and the application processes it to generate a visual representation showing how different entities relate to one another.

The project suits developers who want to quickly visualize knowledge structures without building graph extraction pipelines from scratch. It works as a standalone Flask application accessible through a browser, making it suitable for exploration and prototyping. The tool offers optional integration with graph databases—Neo4j or FalkorDB—for users who need to persist and query the generated graphs beyond visualization. It can run locally in development mode or be deployed as a Docker container using Gunicorn for production environments.

The project shows active maintenance with support for multiple deployment scenarios and database backends. The codebase includes clear documentation of the core graph generation logic, with the author explicitly directing users to examine the function call parameters in main.py to understand how knowledge extraction works. The tool is available both as an open-source repository for developers and through a hosted service for non-technical users.
