Detailed Description

Nelm is a Kubernetes deployment tool that manages Helm Charts and deploys them to Kubernetes as a modern alternative to Helm.

Nelm addresses limitations in Helm by providing a substantially rewritten codebase that fixes long-standing bugs and introduces major new capabilities. It offers two-stage deployment with terraform plan-like preview functionality, improved CRD management, built-in secrets management, advanced resource ordering and lifecycle handling, and continuous real-time output of logs, events, resource statuses, and errors during deployment.

Nelm suits teams seeking a drop-in Helm replacement with enhanced deployment workflows and reliability. It maintains compatibility with existing Helm Charts and Releases to ease migration, making it accessible to projects already using Helm. The tool is production-ready, having been battle-tested as the deployment engine for werf across thousands of projects over years of use.

The project maintains active development with regular updates to the codebase. Work focuses on expanding deployment capabilities while preserving backward compatibility with the Helm ecosystem. The maintainers prioritize stability and real-world reliability alongside feature development.
