2 people did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

Around half of the issues opened in the past year never receive a reply. 98% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. Almost all tracked open issues have seen activity in the last three months. Only 21% of issues opened in the past year have been closed. Three people close 92% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

BongoCat is a desktop pet application built with C, SDL3, and OpenGL that displays an animated character on your screen.

The project creates an interactive desktop companion by combining low-level graphics rendering through OpenGL with SDL3 for windowing and input handling, all written in C. The application renders animated character models and responds to user interaction, functioning as a customizable pet that can be displayed on the desktop.

BongoCat suits developers interested in graphics programming, desktop applications, or those wanting to experiment with SDL3 and OpenGL in C. The project provides free character models through its official website and welcomes community contributions of additional models. It is positioned as a fun, lightweight alternative to heavier desktop pet frameworks, emphasizing direct graphics control and minimal dependencies.

The project maintains active community engagement through multiple communication channels and provides documentation in numerous languages. Development appears focused on expanding the model library and improving the desktop experience rather than core engine changes.
