Maintainer activity

5 people did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

About 10% of issues opened in the past year have never received a reply. Only 8% of open issues come from outside the core team — the tracker reads mainly as internal planning. Work labelled "area/documentation" is answered fastest, typically in under an hour, while "tech debt" waits about 4 weeks. 79% of issues opened in the past year have been closed, leaving a working backlog. Three people close 95% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

SBOMscanner is a security scanner for Kubernetes that analyzes software bill of materials to identify vulnerabilities.

The tool addresses the need to assess security risks in Kubernetes environments by taking a SBOM-centric approach. Rather than scanning container images directly, it works with software bill of materials data, which provides a structured inventory of software components and their versions. This allows security teams to evaluate vulnerabilities based on the declared composition of applications running in their clusters.

Organizations running Kubernetes workloads should consider SBOMscanner if they want vulnerability assessment integrated with their cluster operations and already have SBOM data available or can generate it. The tool is particularly suited for environments where SBOM generation is part of the build pipeline, as it can consume that output for ongoing security monitoring. Teams should review the quickstart documentation to understand the integration requirements and workflow.

The project maintains active development with regular check runs on the main branch and an established contribution process documented in contributing guidelines. The team uses RFC documents in the repository to discuss architecture and design proposals, indicating a structured approach to feature development and significant changes. The project provides comprehensive documentation separate from the repository and maintains community engagement through the Kubernetes Slack workspace.
