Detailed Description

Codex Manager is a local-first desktop control center for managing OpenAI Codex usage on macOS.

The tool addresses the fragmentation of Codex-related information across CLI tools, configuration files, and project state by consolidating sessions, models, tokens, accounts, providers, and AGENTS.md files into a single interface. It observes and tracks usage data locally without sending it to external services, labeling observed values by their source and distinguishing estimates from actual provider billing information.

Codex Manager suits developers who work regularly with Codex and need visibility into their token consumption, model selection, and reasoning effort across multiple sessions and projects. The tool is macOS-only and requires Apple silicon. It provides token inspection across input, output, cached read/write, and reasoning categories, along with cost estimation from a versioned pricing catalog. The interface includes filtering and cursor-based pagination for browsing activity, with detail views that do not persist message or reasoning text locally.

The project maintains signed and notarized macOS releases with published checksums for verification. Development has addressed database migration issues, including a known capacity constraint in earlier versions that was resolved by increasing the database budget. The codebase is written in Rust and built with Tauri for the desktop interface.
