How this project is maintained

Around half of the issues opened in the past year never receive a reply. 98% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. Detailed Description

iSponsorBlockTV is a self-hosted application that automatically skips sponsored segments and advertisements in YouTube videos on smart TV platforms.

The tool solves the problem of unwanted content interruptions across diverse TV ecosystems by running on a computer with network access and connecting to YouTube TV apps through the SponsorBlock API. It intercepts video playback on supported devices, identifies segments marked as sponsors, intros, or ads in the SponsorBlock database, and automatically skips them. The application can also mute audio during ads and press skip buttons when they become available. Device pairing happens through either automatic network discovery or manual entry of a YouTube TV code found in the app's settings.

Anyone running YouTube on a smart TV who wants to remove sponsor segments should consider this tool. It works across a broad range of platforms including Apple TV, Samsung Tizen, LG WebOS, Android TV, Chromecast, Google TV, Roku, Fire TV, and gaming consoles like Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. The tool requires only that the host computer can reach youtube.com; it does not need to be on the same network as the TV after initial setup. One limitation worth noting is that YouTube Shorts are not fully supported due to platform constraints, though workarounds exist. The README does not compare this project to alternatives.

The project maintains active engagement with users through issue tracking and pull requests for device compatibility testing. Development relies on established libraries including pyytlounge for device interaction, Textual for the graphical configuration interface, and SSDP for network device discovery. The tool has been adopted by the Home Assistant ecosystem as an official addon, indicating sufficient stability for integration into broader home automation platforms.
