Detailed Description

Buildpack Samples is a collection of example implementations for Cloud Native Buildpacks designed for learning and testing purposes.

The repository addresses the need for concrete, working examples of how to build the core components of the Cloud Native Buildpacks ecosystem. It provides sample applications, buildpacks, builders, base images, and packages that demonstrate the practical implementation of the CNB specification. Developers can use these samples to understand how the different pieces fit together and how to construct OCI images from source code using the buildpack model.

The samples are structured to support hands-on learning, with a recommended starting point of exploring the apps directory after installing the pack CLI tool. The repository includes examples of both simple and complex scenarios, allowing developers to progress from basic usage to more advanced buildpack authoring. This collection is most valuable for teams new to Cloud Native Buildpacks who want to see working examples before building their own custom buildpacks or builders, or for those evaluating whether the buildpack approach fits their containerization workflow.

The project maintains active engagement with its learning community through dedicated Slack channels and organized contribution guidelines. Development activity shows consistent attention to keeping samples functional and aligned with the Cloud Native Buildpacks specification, with testing infrastructure in place for both Linux and Windows container scenarios.
