Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

Detailed Description

BNB Smart Chain is a blockchain client that brings EVM compatibility and programmability to the BNB ecosystem through a go-ethereum fork.

The project addresses the need for a high-performance, cost-efficient blockchain that maintains compatibility with Ethereum's existing smart contracts and tooling while introducing its own consensus mechanism. BNB Smart Chain achieves this by forking go-ethereum as its foundation and layering on top a Proof of Staked Authority consensus engine called Parlia. This system uses 21 validators elected through staking, enabling shorter block times and lower transaction fees compared to traditional proof-of-work systems. Double-sign detection and slashing logic provide security guarantees and chain finality.

Developers should adopt this tool if they want to deploy EVM-compatible smart contracts on a blockchain with faster finality and cheaper fees than Ethereum, while participating in a staked validator model. The project suits teams building on the BNB ecosystem who need a client implementation compatible with existing Ethereum development tools and contracts. Because the codebase is based on go-ethereum, developers familiar with Ethereum's architecture will find the transition straightforward, though they should expect some naming conventions and tooling to reflect the Ethereum heritage.

The project maintains three distinct release tracks to serve different user needs: stable releases for production use, feature releases that provide early access to individual features without destabilizing the core product, and preview releases offering bleeding-edge builds with varying maturity levels marked as alpha, beta, or release candidate. This structured approach to releases indicates a commitment to serving both conservative operators who need proven stability and experimental users who want to test upcoming functionality.
