Detailed Description

AWS EKS Blueprints for Terraform is a collection of reference patterns for configuring and deploying complete Amazon EKS clusters using Terraform.

The project addresses the complexity of setting up production-ready EKS clusters by providing opinionated patterns that integrate Kubernetes tooling with AWS services. Rather than requiring teams to spend months researching and assembling the right combination of open-source tools and AWS components, the blueprints demonstrate proven configurations that handle cluster bootstrapping and operational software setup. The patterns show how to combine EKS with popular Kubernetes ecosystem tools to create clusters ready for workload deployment.

The blueprints are designed for reference and adaptation rather than direct consumption as Terraform modules. Teams should view the patterns to understand design choices, then copy and modify them for their specific environment. This approach means you customize configurations locally before applying them, rather than parameterizing everything through module variables. The project includes patterns for various deployment scenarios, including support for Fargate and Bottlerocket, and provides accompanying Terraform modules to support the blueprint implementations. This consumption model suits organizations that want guidance on cluster architecture and are comfortable tailoring configurations to their needs, rather than those seeking a fully parameterized, plug-and-play module.

Development activity shows consistent engagement with the codebase through regular commits and pull request reviews. The project maintains active documentation and responds to community contributions, indicating ongoing maintenance and refinement of the patterns based on user feedback and evolving AWS EKS capabilities.
