Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. Detailed Description

The ASWF Landscape is an interactive categorized directory of open source projects used in the motion picture, visual effects, and animation industries.

The tool addresses the need to discover and understand the ecosystem of open source software serving the entertainment industry. It maps projects across categories relevant to visual effects, animation, and image creation, displaying metadata including GitHub activity, funding information, contributor counts, and project history. The landscape is modeled after the CNCF Landscape and uses the same underlying generation software, providing a familiar interface for exploring the industry's open source ecosystem.

Projects included must be open source, hosted on or mirrored to GitHub, and have been successfully used in production for film, television, animated content, or other entertainment industry work. They should be designed specifically for the entertainment sector. The tool accepts new entries through pull requests to the landscape data file, with projects placed in single categories where they best fit rather than creating new categories. Logos must be provided as SVG files including the project name. For corrections to project information, contributors can edit the landscape data directly, though Academy Software Foundation member and project data are synchronized nightly from upstream sources and cannot be manually edited in this repository.

The project maintains its data through a combination of manual curation and automated synchronization. Academy Software Foundation member and project entries are rebuilt nightly using external tools, ensuring they stay current with authoritative sources. Other project entries and corrections are managed through community pull requests to the landscape data file. The tool relies on external data sources including GitHub and Crunchbase for enriched project metadata, with corrections to Crunchbase data requiring updates in that system rather than in this repository.
