Detailed Description

ASWF Sample Project is a template repository that demonstrates best practices for open source projects seeking Academy Software Foundation membership and graduation through its lifecycle stages.

The project addresses the challenge of establishing consistent infrastructure and practices across ASWF member projects. Rather than requiring each project to independently determine how to meet acceptance criteria, the sample project provides a skeleton implementation showing the preferred approaches. It documents how to structure a project to satisfy requirements for both Incubation Stage acceptance and Adopted Stage graduation, with particular attention to meeting the Linux Foundation's Core Infrastructure Initiative best practices badge criteria, which form a major component of ASWF graduation requirements.

Projects considering adoption should understand that this is a reference implementation designed for ASWF member projects or those planning to join ASWF. It is most suitable for teams building new open source projects in the media and entertainment software domain who want to align with ASWF standards from the outset, or existing projects preparing a submission for ASWF membership. The sample project demonstrates how to implement common practices and infrastructure in ways that reduce duplicated effort across the foundation's portfolio. It is not a tool or library for end users, but rather a guide and starting point for project maintainers.

The project maintains active documentation of ASWF requirements and processes, with the README clearly explaining the project submission pathway, graduation lifecycle, and how various files and configurations relate to best practices badge criteria. The repository serves as a living reference that reflects guidance from the Technical Advisory Committee, making it a resource that evolves as ASWF standards and practices develop.
