Detailed Description

Velociraptor is an endpoint visibility and response platform that enables organizations to hunt for threats, investigate incidents, and manage endpoint inventory at scale.

The tool addresses the challenge of gaining deep visibility into endpoint behavior and responding to security incidents across large networks. It works by deploying lightweight agents to endpoints that collect forensic artifacts, execute custom queries, and report findings back to a central server. Organizations can hunt for indicators of compromise, perform live forensic analysis, and automate response actions without requiring endpoints to be taken offline. The platform uses a query language to define what data to collect and how to analyze it, allowing security teams to adapt investigations to emerging threats.

Velociraptor suits organizations that need to perform threat hunting and incident response at enterprise scale, particularly those managing heterogeneous environments where flexibility in data collection matters. It is designed for security operations centers and incident response teams that want to move beyond traditional endpoint detection and response tools by enabling custom investigations tailored to their specific threats. The platform also serves inventory and compliance use cases by collecting detailed endpoint configuration data. Teams should adopt it if they need to execute complex, multi-stage investigations across thousands of endpoints or if they require the ability to write custom collection logic without waiting for vendor updates.

The project shows sustained development with regular commits addressing bug fixes, feature additions, and improvements to the query language and agent capabilities. The codebase receives ongoing refinement in response to user feedback and emerging forensic requirements. Documentation is actively maintained to reflect current functionality and usage patterns. The project demonstrates responsiveness to issues raised by the community, with fixes and enhancements incorporated into the main branch on an ongoing basis.
