Maintainer activity

13 people did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 11, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits.

How this project is maintained

About 4% of issues opened in the past year have never received a reply. 84% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. 76% of issues opened in the past year have been closed, leaving a working backlog. Three people close 73% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

Temporal Go SDK is a framework for authoring workflows and activities in Go that execute on the Temporal distributed orchestration engine.

Temporal solves the problem of reliably executing long-running asynchronous business logic across distributed systems. The SDK allows developers to write workflows and activities as ordinary Go code, with the Temporal engine handling durability, fault tolerance, and state management. The engine persists execution state and can replay workflows from checkpoints, enabling recovery from failures without losing progress or duplicating work.

The SDK suits teams building systems that require reliable execution of complex, long-lived operations such as payment processing, order fulfillment, or multi-step approval workflows. It is particularly valuable when business logic spans multiple services or needs to survive infrastructure failures. The core packages—client, worker, and workflow—are released together as a single module, while optional integrations and tools are available as separate modules. For Go 1.21 and later, the SDK provides built-in integration with the standard slog logging package. A workflow determinism checker tool is available to detect non-determinism in workflow definitions, which is critical since Temporal replays workflows to recover state.

The project maintains a rigorous testing infrastructure with an embedded Temporal dev server that is automatically configured for integration tests, enforcing consistent test flags and coverage collection to reduce manual setup burden. Development is organized around a canonical build tool that standardizes how tests are run, logs are managed, and coverage is collected across unit and integration test suites. The project requires Go 1.24 or later and manages multiple Go modules with a coordinated tidying process to keep dependencies consistent.
