Maintainer activity

4 people did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

About 9% of issues opened in the past year have never received a reply. 64% of open issues come from outside the core team, a mix of external reports and the maintainers' own roadmap. Work labelled "Store" is answered fastest, typically in about 5 hours, while "Agent" waits about 3 days. 41% of tracked open issues have had no activity in three months. 78% of issues opened in the past year have been closed, leaving a working backlog.

Detailed Description

Symfony AI is a set of PHP components that integrate AI capabilities into applications built with the Symfony framework.

The project addresses the need to add AI functionality to PHP applications by providing a layered architecture of lower-level and higher-level components. At the foundation, the Platform component offers a unified interface to multiple AI providers including OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure, Gemini, and VertexAI, abstracting away provider-specific differences. The Chat component builds on this to provide a unified messaging interface and long-term context storage. The Agent component supplies a framework for building AI agents that can interact with users and perform tasks. The Store component handles data storage abstraction with indexing and retrieval capabilities for AI applications. The Mate component offers a command-line assistant that enables coding agents to inspect running PHP applications through project-aware tools.

Symfony AI suits teams already invested in the Symfony ecosystem who want to add AI capabilities without managing multiple provider integrations directly. The project provides both lower-level components for fine-grained control and higher-level bundles for streamlined Symfony integration. The AI Bundle integrates the Platform, Store, and Agent components into Symfony applications, while the MCP Bundle adds support for the Model Context Protocol, allowing applications to act as MCP servers or clients. The tool is most appropriate for developers building PHP applications who prefer working within established framework patterns rather than adopting standalone AI libraries.

The project maintains a structured approach with separate, documented components and bundles that can be adopted independently or together. Example code and a demo application are provided to illustrate component usage both in isolation and as an integrated system. The project includes a contribution guide and actively solicits community participation through sponsorship options.
