How this project is maintained

Roughly one issue in four opened in the past year never receives a reply. 100% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. Almost all tracked open issues have seen activity in the last three months. Only 47% of issues opened in the past year have been closed. Three people close 95% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

CADCraft is a computer-aided design and drafting application that provides an open-source, clean-room reimplementation of AutoCAD in pure Rust.

The tool addresses the need for a fast, accessible CAD platform by recreating the AutoCAD workflow with familiar features including command-line interface, object snaps, layers, dimensions, hatches, blocks, and DXF file support. It runs natively on macOS, Windows, Linux, and FreeBSD, and also operates in web browsers via WebAssembly. The implementation is built entirely in Rust, enabling cross-platform deployment without sacrificing performance.

CADCraft suits designers, architects, and engineers who want an open-source alternative to proprietary CAD software and value the ability to run the same application across multiple operating systems and in the browser. The tool is particularly relevant for those working with DXF drawings and seeking a command-driven workflow. It is currently in early development, so adoption should account for incomplete feature coverage compared to mature CAD systems.

The project maintains active community engagement through Discord. Development is ongoing with a defined roadmap guiding future work. The tool supports integration with AI agents through the Model Context Protocol, indicating intentional design for programmatic access alongside traditional user interaction.
