DiPlay is a CarPlay receiver application for compatible Android head units in BYD vehicles.
The tool solves the problem of bringing Apple CarPlay functionality to BYD car infotainment systems that run Android. It works by installing directly on the car's head unit rather than on the iPhone, requiring no jailbreak, dongle, Mac, or authentication server. The application supports both wired USB and wireless CarPlay connections, with wireless operation available through Wi-Fi Direct or the car's existing hotspot. Core CarPlay functionality does not require ADB access, though optional features like dashboard display, battery monitoring, wheel-speed data, and parked-video playback do require it. The tool includes BYD-specific features such as heads-up display navigation with arrows, distance indicators, and street names on verified firmware versions.
Adoption is appropriate for owners of compatible BYD vehicles with Android head units that permit APK installation. The project explicitly focuses on BYD cars and makes no commitment to support other vehicle brands or fix brand-specific incompatibilities. Wireless operation requires Android 10 or later for Wi-Fi Direct, while wired use supports Android 9 and above. Users should be aware that this is not an Apple-certified product; the application bundles an experimental accessory identity recovered from public firmware rather than a newly provisioned MFi identity, and a bundled private key is extractable. Compatibility across different head units and iOS versions is not guaranteed, and occasional audio cutouts remain unresolved in the current release.
Development activity shows testing concentrated on specific hardware configurations, with live windshield guidance and street names verified on a development DiLink 5.1 car and wheel-speed dead reckoning tested on a BYD Tang with DiLink 5.0. The project invites community testing as a public preview rather than guaranteeing universal compatibility. Documentation exists for BYD navigation firmware scope and cleanup limits, indicating attention to platform-specific constraints. The tool can be installed separately alongside DiAuto, though only one projection app can run at a time.
