Maintainer activity

18 people did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

About 3% of issues opened in the past year have never received a reply. 100% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. Work labelled "triaged" is answered fastest, typically in about 8 hours, while "enhancement" waits about 3 days. 77% of issues opened in the past year have been closed, leaving a working backlog.

Detailed Description

AIMET is a software toolkit for quantizing and compressing trained neural network models to improve runtime performance and reduce memory footprint on edge devices.

The toolkit addresses the challenge of maintaining model accuracy during quantization and compression, which typically causes significant performance degradation. AIMET employs post-training and fine-tuning techniques alongside advanced quantization methods like Data-Free Quantization to minimize accuracy loss. By converting models to lower precision integer representations, the tool enables substantially faster inference on specialized hardware like mobile processors while reducing model size, with quantized models running significantly faster than their floating-point counterparts and consuming a fraction of the memory.

AIMET is designed for developers working with PyTorch and ONNX models who need to deploy neural networks on resource-constrained edge devices such as mobile phones or laptops. The toolkit automates much of the optimization process, reducing the need for manual tuning and allowing users to call optimization functions directly from their PyTorch pipelines. Teams building production systems where inference speed and memory efficiency are critical constraints will find the most value in this approach.

The project maintains active community engagement through discussion forums and dedicated communication channels. Development activity shows consistent attention to the codebase with regular updates and refinements to the quantization and compression implementations. The toolkit includes comprehensive documentation and examples, with a curated collection of pre-optimized models available through a companion repository to demonstrate real-world applications of the techniques.
