Detailed Description

Eurorack is a collection of firmware and hardware designs for Eurorack synthesizer modules.

The repository contains the source code and schematics for a range of sound synthesis and modulation modules designed to work within the Eurorack standard. The modules span multiple categories including oscillators, filters, sequencers, utilities, and effects processors. Each module is built around microcontroller platforms, primarily AVR and STM32F architectures, with accompanying hardware designs released under open licensing. The firmware implements the core signal processing and control logic that defines each module's sonic and functional character.

Developers and hardware builders interested in Eurorack synthesis should consider this repository if they want to understand, modify, or build upon established module designs. The collection is particularly suited for those creating derivative hardware implementations, as the open-source nature permits adaptation and reinterpretation. The repository explicitly permits derivative works under the condition that the Mutable Instruments name and trademark are not reused; derivative projects should adopt their own branding. This makes the codebase valuable both for learning synthesis algorithm implementation and for creating custom variations of proven module designs.

The project maintains a stable, mature codebase with firmware for a comprehensive set of modules spanning years of development. The repository accepts contributions and modifications while preserving the original designs as reference implementations. Code is released under different licenses depending on the microcontroller platform: GPL 3.0 for AVR-based projects and MIT for STM32F-based projects, with hardware designs under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0.
