Codex++ is a desktop launcher and management tool for OpenAI Codex and ChatGPT applications.
The tool solves the problem of extending and customizing the official Codex desktop application without modifying its core files. It operates as an external launcher that intercepts and enhances the application through Chromium DevTools Protocol and a local auxiliary service. This approach allows it to provide vendor switching, protocol conversion, session management, and interface enhancements while leaving the official application's installation untouched.
Developers should adopt this tool if they use the official Codex or ChatGPT desktop application and want to switch between different API vendors, manage multiple sessions, or enhance the user interface. It suits workflows where users need flexibility in choosing providers or require additional management capabilities beyond what the official application offers. The tool provides two entry points: a silent launcher that starts the official application with saved configurations, and a management interface for configuring vendors, models, tool plugins, sessions, enhancements, scripts, and diagnostics.
The project is written in Rust using Tauri for the desktop framework. Development shows active maintenance with regular releases and attention to cross-platform support, including separate builds for Windows and both Intel and Apple Silicon macOS architectures. The project maintains documentation in both Chinese and English, indicating consideration for an international user base.
