Detailed Description

wg-template is a template repository for establishing working groups within the Open Mainframe Project.

The template addresses the need for consistency and structure when creating new working groups under the Open Mainframe Project's Technical Advisory Committee. It provides a standardized README structure that new working groups can adopt, ensuring they document their purpose, goals, non-goals, deliverables, communication channels, and meeting schedules in a uniform way. The approach is modeled on established practices from similar organizations, specifically drawing from the CNCF Serverless Working Group model.

Organizations establishing working groups within the Open Mainframe Project should use this template to maintain consistency across their governance structure. It suits any new working group that needs to communicate its charter, expected outcomes, and operational details to stakeholders. The template includes sections for describing group purpose, listing distinct goals and intentional non-goals, identifying a TAC sponsor, documenting planned deliverables, specifying communication channels, and recording meeting information and notes. By providing placeholder text in italics for customization, the template guides creators through what information should be included without prescribing specific content.

The project functions as a reference implementation and starting point rather than an active development effort. It remains stable as a structural guide, with updates likely only when the Open Mainframe Project's governance practices evolve or when better practices for working group documentation emerge.
