Detailed Description

gans-awesome-applications is a curated list of generative adversarial network applications and demonstrations.

The project addresses the need to understand what GANs are actually used for in practice, rather than cataloging general GAN model papers. It curates landmark applications and demonstrations by filtering out papers whose primary contribution is a new GAN architecture or loss function, and excludes pure theory work and diffusion-only research. The curation emphasizes genuine practical applications that showcase GAN capabilities.

The list serves researchers and practitioners who want to explore real-world GAN use cases and see working demonstrations. It suits anyone investigating what problems GANs solve or looking for inspiration on GAN applications. The project includes a small set of foundational papers at the top—papers that the curator considers landmarks worthy of respect—followed by organized application examples. Each entry is tagged with resource types: paper, code, project or demo, video, or blog post, making it easy to find the format most useful for learning about each application.

The project maintains an open contribution policy and welcomes additions through pull requests, as stated in its contributing guidelines. The curation is explicitly selective, with the curator stating that only genuinely awesome entries are included rather than attempting comprehensive coverage.
