Detailed Description

Windows Developer Config is a PowerShell automation tool that sets up and configures Windows development environments.

The tool addresses the friction of manually configuring a new Windows development machine. It provides three distinct setup paths: a complete workstation configuration that installs dev tools and applies Windows settings in a single command with one restart, a WSL shell enhancement for polished terminal environments, and individual language-specific toolchain installers. The approach is idempotent, meaning it can be safely re-run on existing machines without causing problems, and requires no prior installation or cloning—users simply run a command in PowerShell.

The standard workstation setup installs a curated set of development tools including Windows Terminal, PowerShell 7, Git, GitHub CLI, VS Code, .NET SDK, Python with uv, Node.js with nvm, and utilities like PowerToys and Oh My Posh. It applies opinionated Windows settings for dark theme, long paths, and Do Not Disturb mode, then sets up WSL with Ubuntu. A full experience variant adds Developer Mode, Sudo, and Remote Desktop configuration. The tool suits developers who want a preconfigured, distraction-free workstation without spending time on individual tool setup and OS tweaking. It is particularly valuable for those setting up fresh Windows machines or standardizing development environments across teams.

The project maintains active development with regular updates to tool versions and Windows configurations. The scripts are tested through continuous integration to ensure reliability. Documentation is comprehensive, covering every setting change, how to undo modifications, and troubleshooting guidance. The tool is designed to be maintainable and transparent about what it modifies on the system.
