OpenHanako is a personal AI agent framework that enables autonomous agents with persistent memory, distinct personalities, and the ability to work collaboratively on a computer.

The project addresses the gap between general users and AI agent technology by providing an accessible interface that does not require complex configuration or technical terminology. Rather than targeting only developers, it is designed for anyone working at a computer. The tool combines memory systems with personality templates to create agents that communicate naturally and behave distinctly from one another. Agents can read and write files, execute terminal commands, browse the web, search the internet, take screenshots, preview media, and learn new skills autonomously. The system supports multiple agents operating simultaneously, each with independent memory, personality, and scheduled tasks that can collaborate through channels or delegate work to one another.

The project suits users who want AI assistance integrated into daily office workflows without command-line complexity. It provides a graphical interface alongside terminal access, making it accessible to non-technical users while remaining powerful enough for developers. The tool includes personality templates and customizable personality files so each agent develops a unique communication style and behavioral logic. Agents can import and export as local-first character cards in zip format, carrying personality, avatar, optional memory, and skills. A desk feature provides an asynchronous collaboration space where users can place files and write notes that agents actively read and execute.

Development shows consistent activity with regular improvements to core systems. The project maintains active optimization of the memory system to strengthen recent event retention.
