Detailed Description

LeftWM is a tiling window manager for Linux written in Rust that manages window layouts and workspaces on X11 systems.

LeftWM solves the problem of organizing windows efficiently on desktop systems by automatically arranging them in tiling patterns rather than allowing free-floating placement. The tool follows a Unix philosophy approach, focusing solely on window management while delegating other desktop functions to external components. It uses a theme system that lets users swap in different bars, compositors, backgrounds, and visual elements by setting symlinks, keeping the core window manager lightweight and composable.

The project suits users who want a stable, performant tiling window manager and are comfortable configuring their desktop through external tools. It is particularly well-suited for multi-monitor setups and ultrawide displays, with default keybindings designed to support these configurations. LeftWM uses RON as its configuration language and provides a migration tool for users upgrading from earlier versions that used TOML.

Development activity shows consistent engagement with the project maintaining active communication channels across Discord and Matrix chat platforms for announcements, general discussion, and user support. The tool has documentation available through both a wiki and API documentation, and the project runs continuous integration checks on code changes.
