Maintainer activity

3 people did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

About 17% of issues opened in the past year have never received a reply. 98% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. 70% of issues opened in the past year have been closed, leaving a working backlog. Detailed Description

TeaVM is an ahead-of-time compiler that translates Java bytecode to JavaScript, WebAssembly, and C.

The tool addresses the challenge of running Java applications in environments where the JVM is unavailable or impractical, such as web browsers and embedded systems. It works by compiling Java code directly to target languages rather than relying on runtime interpretation, enabling Java applications to execute natively in web and systems programming contexts.

TeaVM suits projects where you need to write once in Java and deploy to multiple platforms including the browser. It includes its own reimplementation of the Java class library, drawing from Apache Harmony, Joda-Time, and jzlib to avoid GPL dependencies. The tool can be used through Maven and Gradle plugins, or embedded directly via the TeaVMTool and TeaVM classes for integration with other build systems like Ant. A gallery of example projects demonstrates its capabilities across different target platforms.

The project maintains active issue tracking and provides email-based support. Development includes tooling for assessing Java class library compatibility across different target outputs. The embedding APIs remain explicitly unstable and subject to change between releases, indicating ongoing refinement of the compiler infrastructure.
