D2R Mobile is a compatibility layer that brings Diablo II: Resurrected with the Reign of the Warlock expansion to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS by running the original Nintendo Switch game code natively on Apple devices.
The tool solves the problem of playing a console game on mobile and desktop platforms without emulation. It executes the game's original aarch64 program directly on the device, rewriting only the handful of instructions that cannot run under Apple's kernel while leaving every other byte unchanged. The graphics API is reimplemented entirely on Metal with offline shader translation, and a small host layer provides the platform services the game expects: system calls, file system access, audio, and input. Every control has been rebuilt for touch interaction, the frame rate holds at 60 fps, and the game launches within one second of the main menu.
Adoption suits players who own the Switch release and want to play on iPhone, iPad, or Apple silicon Mac with full feature parity to the original. The tool preserves all gameplay mechanics, classes, Runewords, Terror Zones, bosses, and drop rules identically. It includes a complete touch control scheme, edge-to-edge display support, controller compatibility, power saver mode, save synchronization, English and Chinese language support, and endgame modes and quality-of-life features beyond the original game. A native macOS version works with keyboard, mouse, and gamepad on Apple silicon Macs running the specified OS versions. An Apple TV 4K community port exists as a developer preview but has only reached the character-selection screen.
The project shows active refinement toward production use. Development includes ongoing optimization of the touch control scheme and addition of endgame features. The codebase maintains strict fidelity to the original game logic while expanding the feature set for mobile play. Platform support has expanded from iOS and iPadOS to include a native macOS implementation and experimental Apple TV support.
