Detailed Description

uBlacklist is a browser extension that blocks specific sites from appearing in search results across multiple search engines.

The extension solves the problem of unwanted or low-quality sites cluttering search results by allowing users to create custom blocking rules. Rules can be specified using match patterns for simple domain blocking or more sophisticated expressions that support regular expressions, variables, and conditional logic. Users can add rules directly from search result pages or by clicking the toolbar icon on any site. The tool supports synchronization of rulesets across devices through cloud storage services like Google Drive and Dropbox, or through built-in browser sync. Users can also subscribe to public rulesets maintained by the community.

The extension works across Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari, and supports blocking on multiple search engines including Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, Kagi, SearXNG, Startpage, Yahoo Japan, and Yandex. It handles web results, images, videos, and news searches depending on the search engine. This broad compatibility makes it suitable for users who want consistent search filtering regardless of their browser or preferred search engine. The tool's expression-based rule system distinguishes it from simpler blockers, enabling advanced filtering scenarios like matching based on result titles, categories, or URL paths.

The project maintains a strict browser support policy covering only the latest stable versions of each supported browser, with community contributions required for other browsers. Development activity shows consistent engagement with user discussions and feature proposals, with the maintainer requesting concrete implementation proposals for new browser support rather than accepting feature requests alone.
