Maintainer activity

5 people did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

Roughly one issue in three opened in the past year never receives a reply. 76% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. 64% of tracked open issues have had no activity in three months, so the open count overstates what is actively being worked. Only 32% of issues opened in the past year have been closed. Three people close 61% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

Idris 2 is a purely functional programming language with first class types.

Idris 2 addresses the challenge of writing programs with strong compile-time guarantees by treating types as first-class values that can be computed and manipulated like any other data. This approach enables dependent typing, where types can depend on runtime values, allowing the type system to express precise specifications about program behavior. The language compiles to efficient code and provides a compiler that catches errors at compile time rather than runtime.

Idris 2 suits developers building systems where correctness guarantees matter more than rapid prototyping, particularly those working on formal verification, theorem proving, or safety-critical code. It is appropriate for projects where the ability to encode invariants directly in types justifies the learning curve of dependent typing. The project maintains a package manager called pack that simplifies dependency management and provides access to a curated collection of compatible libraries. The ecosystem includes editor support and language server integration, reducing friction for daily development work.

The project sustains active development with regular engagement across multiple areas. Maintenance of the compiler and core language features continues steadily. The community actively curates and documents third-party libraries, maintaining a public list of available packages. Documentation efforts include official talks that demonstrate language capabilities and resources for learning the language. The project accepts community contributions through organized initiatives.
