Detailed Description

Ultracite is a linter and formatter that provides zero-configuration code quality tooling designed for agentic development.

The tool solves the problem of setup friction and configuration complexity by offering an interactive initialization process that automatically detects your package manager, guides you through selecting a formatter and linter, and wires up hundreds of preconfigured rules in seconds. It supports three underlying toolchains: Biome for all-in-one formatting and linting, ESLint with Prettier and Stylelint for maximum ecosystem maturity, or Oxlint with Oxfmt for Rust-based performance. The tool then generates configuration files tailored to your chosen framework and can create context files for AI agents so that both humans and models follow the same style rules.

Ultracite suits teams adopting agentic development workflows who want consistent code without managing complex linter configurations. It works across single repositories and monorepos, automatically detects your package manager, and provides commands to check files, apply fixes, diagnose configuration issues, and upgrade tooling. The `fix` command can hand remaining unfixable issues to Claude Code or Codex for autonomous repair. This approach is most valuable if you are already committed to one of the three supported toolchains and want rapid setup with sensible defaults rather than building your own configuration from scratch.

The project shows active development with regular updates to support new frameworks and AI agents. The tool maintains compatibility across multiple package managers and editor integrations, indicating ongoing attention to developer experience across different environments. Documentation is comprehensive, with a dedicated website providing full CLI reference details and setup guidance for both interactive and non-interactive use cases.
