Detailed Description

Remodex is an iOS app and local bridge that lets you control OpenAI's Codex from your iPhone while the runtime stays on your Mac.

The tool solves the problem of running Codex interactively on mobile by establishing a secure, end-to-end encrypted connection between an iPhone and a Mac. It uses a local-first architecture where a lightweight background bridge service runs on macOS via launchd, and the iOS app pairs with it through a one-time QR code bootstrap. After pairing, the iPhone can reconnect automatically through a configured relay. The bridge handles forwarding instructions to Codex, receiving responses in real-time, executing git operations locally, and persisting session history.

Remodex suits developers who want to interact with Codex from their phone without relying on a public hosted service. The tool prioritizes self-hosting and local control: the iOS app source contains no embedded public endpoint, and the transport layer remains inspectable. The architecture supports both macOS background daemon operation via launchd and self-hosted relay setups on other operating systems, though the latter currently use foreground bridge flow rather than background service integration. Key capabilities include fast mode for lower-latency interactions, plan mode for structured execution, subagents invoked from the phone, steering of active runs, queuing follow-up prompts during execution, git actions including commit and branch switching, photo attachments, and reasoning controls to tune Codex's thinking depth.

The project is in early development with the maintainer explicitly warning to expect bugs. Contributions are not actively accepted at this stage, though a contributing guide exists for those who wish to help despite this. The iOS app is available on the App Store, and users can also build from source in Xcode and install signed builds on-device through the in-app pairing flow.
