Maintainer activity

11 people did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

Around half of the issues opened in the past year never receive a reply. 99% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. Almost all tracked open issues have seen activity in the last three months. Only 6% of issues opened in the past year have been closed. Three people close 53% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

Docker Roadmap is a public planning document that shares Docker's planned work across its core products and services.

The tool addresses the need for transparency between Docker and its users about upcoming features and priorities. Docker publishes its roadmap to gather early feedback on planned work, allowing customers to make informed decisions about which features matter to them and when they might arrive. The approach uses a GitHub project board organized by development stage, from Investigating through Shipped, without specific dates to preserve flexibility for security issues and priority changes.

Anyone using Docker products benefits from visibility into what the team is building. The roadmap covers Hub, Desktop, Engine, docker-compose, and Build Cloud. Users can contribute ideas and feedback directly through GitHub issues, and Docker actively solicits input through a Developer Preview Program for early access to features and user research sessions to understand pain points. The tool is most valuable for teams making long-term decisions about Docker adoption or planning around upcoming capabilities.

The project maintains an open feedback loop where community members can request features and comment on planned work. Docker separates this roadmap from bug tracking, which lives in product-specific repositories for Hub, Engine, and each Desktop variant. Security issues are handled through private disclosure rather than public tracking. The team regularly updates roadmap items as work progresses through development stages and incorporates user research findings to inform prioritization.
