Detailed Description

MailSniper is a penetration testing tool for searching email in Microsoft Exchange environments. It allows operators to hunt for sensitive information such as passwords, confidential business details, or network topology data across mailboxes by querying Exchange directly.

The tool addresses the need to discover exposed sensitive data within an organization's email system. It works by connecting to Exchange and executing searches for specified keywords or patterns. A key strength is its flexibility in scope: non-administrative users can search only their own mailboxes, while domain administrators can cast a wider net and search across all user mailboxes in the environment. This dual capability makes it useful both for red teamers simulating insider threats and for administrators conducting security assessments.

MailSniper suits penetration testers and security professionals who have legitimate access to Exchange infrastructure and need to demonstrate email-based data exposure risks. It is most applicable in assessments where the goal is to identify what sensitive information might be recoverable through email search, either by a compromised user account or through administrative access. The tool assumes you already have connectivity to an Exchange server and appropriate credentials; it is not designed for external reconnaissance or initial access.

The project shows consistent maintenance with regular updates addressing Exchange compatibility and adding new search capabilities. Development activity demonstrates responsiveness to user-reported issues and incorporation of feedback for improving search functionality. The codebase receives periodic enhancements to support different Exchange versions and deployment scenarios. Updates reflect attention to keeping the tool functional as Exchange environments evolve.
