Detailed Description

DevStats is a tool for analyzing and visualizing developer contributions to open source projects through Grafana dashboards powered by GitHub data.

The tool solves the problem of understanding development activity patterns across projects by ingesting GitHub archives, GitHub API data, and git history, then transforming that raw event data into queryable metrics displayed on interactive dashboards. It processes GitHub events into a PostgreSQL database and surfaces insights through Grafana visualizations, allowing stakeholders to track contributor activity, pull request patterns, issue resolution, and other development metrics over time.

DevStats is designed for organizations managing multiple open source projects that need centralized visibility into development health and contributor engagement. It suits projects within the CNCF ecosystem and similar communities where tracking cross-project development trends matters. The tool can be deployed on Kubernetes using Helm charts, on bare metal infrastructure, or in cloud environments. The README provides example Helm deployments and references specific deployment patterns for different scenarios, including dedicated Helm charts for GraphQL foundation deployments and data-only deployments.

The project maintains active development with regular updates to its core Go codebase and deployment infrastructure. The tool integrates deeply with the Kubernetes ecosystem, relying on multiple CNCF projects including Helm, cert-manager, and CoreDNS for its own operation. Documentation includes presentations and recorded talks explaining the architecture and use cases. The project supports extensibility through custom Grafana dashboards and provides clear examples for deploying instances on new projects beyond the primary Kubernetes focus.
