Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

Detailed Description

Postgres Extensions Containers is a collection of maintenance scripts and container images for PostgreSQL extensions designed to integrate with CloudNativePG's image volume extensions feature.

The tool solves the problem of distributing and managing PostgreSQL extensions in Kubernetes environments where CloudNativePG is deployed. It provides immutable container images containing community-maintained extensions that can be mounted as pluggable volumes into PostgreSQL clusters. The approach leverages Kubernetes ImageVolume functionality to make extensions available without modifying the base PostgreSQL container image, enabling cleaner separation of concerns and easier extension management at scale.

Adoption suits teams running CloudNativePG on Kubernetes who need specific PostgreSQL extensions and want to avoid building custom images. The project maintains a curated set of extensions including pgAudit, pgvector, PostGIS, pgRouting, TimescaleDB, pg_ivm, pg_crash, and wal2json. Extensions are provided only for Debian stable and oldstable distributions to match the base PostgreSQL container images from the related postgres-containers project. The tool requires CloudNativePG version 1.27 or later, PostgreSQL 18 or later with the extension_control_path feature, and Kubernetes 1.33 or later with ImageVolume support enabled. Contributors can propose and maintain additional extensions following the project's governance framework, which requires extensions to be maintained by their authors, distributed as DFSG-compliant Debian packages from trusted repositories, and comply with CNCF licensing policies.

The project maintains active stewardship of its core extensions through the CloudNativePG maintainers while accepting community contributions for additional extensions with designated maintainers. Build infrastructure relies on Dagger and Task for reproducible container image construction. Documentation covers both end-user integration with CloudNativePG clusters and contributor workflows for adding new extensions.
