Detailed Description

Ceph CSI is a Container Storage Interface driver that enables Kubernetes to dynamically provision and attach Ceph storage volumes.

The tool solves the problem of integrating Ceph storage with Kubernetes by implementing the CSI specification. It provides separate plugins for RBD and CephFS backed volumes, allowing container orchestrators to request and manage Ceph storage through a standardized interface. The driver handles volume provisioning, attachment, resizing, and snapshotting through sidecar components including a provisioner, attacher, resizer, driver-registrar, and snapshotter.

Ceph CSI is suitable for Kubernetes environments where dynamic provisioning of Ceph-backed storage is required. The project is in general availability status and supports multiple Kubernetes versions across different release lines. Users should be aware that Arm64 support is experimental. The tool maintains a support window covering the latest major release and the previous minor release, so operators running older versions will be expected to upgrade when seeking support.
