Detailed Description

Mustache.php is a Mustache template engine implementation in PHP.

Mustache is a logic-less templating language that separates presentation from code by using a simple syntax of tags and sections. Mustache.php brings this approach to PHP applications, allowing developers to render templates with context data passed as objects or associative arrays. The engine processes Mustache syntax to produce output, with support for variable interpolation, conditional sections, loops, and callable sections that can execute logic during rendering.

Mustache.php suits projects that value template simplicity and portability across languages, since Mustache syntax is consistent across implementations. It works well for applications where templates should remain largely free of business logic. The tool is particularly useful if you need templates that are readable and maintainable by non-programmers, or if you want to share template syntax with other parts of a system written in different languages. The README recommends using the ENT_QUOTES entity flag by default to reduce cross-site scripting vulnerabilities.

The project maintains backwards compatibility across major versions while modernizing its PHP support requirements. Version 3.x dropped support for older PHP versions but preserved the ability to configure previous behavior through options like strict_callables, buggy_property_shadowing, and double_render_lambdas, allowing gradual migration paths for existing codebases. The tool's interface has evolved to accommodate wider PHP version support ranges, which may require adjustments if you extend Mustache directly.
