Detailed Description

Commerce Agents is a reference blueprint for building shopping and merchant agents with Claude.

The project addresses the need to deploy AI agents across customer-facing and back-office commerce workflows. It provides two agent implementations: a shopping agent that customers interact with through a storefront to search products, compare options, manage carts, and get answers about orders and policies, and a merchant agent that staff use to monitor performance, maintain product listings, manage inventory and pricing, and draft campaigns. Both agents are defined once in terms of prompts, skills, tool contracts, and authorization gates, then run across the Messages API, the Claude Agent SDK, and Managed Agents. The approach is demonstrated across four vertical markets: retail, travel, telecom, and entertainment, each with runnable examples showing both agents in action. All write operations are staged for human approval rather than applied directly to live systems, leaving business rules, authorization, and compliance decisions to the deploying organization.

Adoption suits teams building commerce experiences who want to start from working examples rather than from scratch. The shopping agent handles product discovery, comparison, and customer service; the merchant agent handles analytics, catalog management, inventory, pricing, and marketing. The project includes a Claude Code plugin that scaffolds new agents against your own systems or reviews agents you have already built, asking about your stack and generating the project structure. The four included verticals serve as templates showing how to adapt the agents to different industries.

The project maintains active development with regular updates to both agent implementations and the supporting infrastructure. The codebase includes comprehensive skill definitions for each agent, with clear backend interfaces that deployments must implement to connect to their own systems. Documentation covers both quick-start paths for running the demos and guidance for building custom agents, with the plugin providing interactive assistance throughout the development process.
