How this project is maintained

Around half of the issues opened in the past year never receive a reply. 100% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. Work labelled "enhancement" is answered fastest, typically in about 7 hours, while "bug" waits about 3 days. 73% of tracked open issues have had no activity in three months, so the open count overstates what is actively being worked. Only 7% of issues opened in the past year have been closed.

Detailed Description

Pearcleaner is a Mac app cleaner that removes applications and their associated files from macOS systems.

The tool addresses the problem that standard macOS uninstallation leaves behind orphaned files and application support data scattered across the system. Pearcleaner scans for and removes these leftover files alongside the main application bundle. It also provides utilities for managing development environments, Homebrew packages, plugins, and services, plus the ability to search for specific files and update installed applications. The interface supports both drag-and-drop and command-line workflows, with a Finder extension for right-click uninstallation.

Pearcleaner suits users who want thorough application removal without manual file hunting or who need to manage development tools and package managers from a single interface. The tool is free and source-available, positioning itself as an alternative to commercial cleaners. It was inspired by existing open-source approaches to app cleaning on macOS.

Development on the project is on hold indefinitely. The maintainer lacks access to a Mac device for building and testing, and active maintenance including issue responses, feature work, and pull request reviews is not currently possible. The project is not abandoned entirely, though circumstances would need to change for active development to resume.
