How this project is maintained

Roughly one issue in four opened in the past year never receives a reply. 100% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. 77% of tracked open issues have had no activity in three months, so the open count overstates what is actively being worked. Only 32% of issues opened in the past year have been closed. Three people close 65% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

HunyuanOCR is a lightweight optical character recognition vision language model designed for fast and accurate text extraction from images.

The tool addresses the challenge of building OCR systems that balance speed and accuracy without requiring massive computational resources. HunyuanOCR-1.5 achieves this through several technical improvements: DFlash speculative decoding accelerates inference, PC-side deployment via llama.cpp enables local processing, an Agentic Data Flow improves data handling, and an upgraded training recipe enhances model quality. The system handles end-to-end OCR tasks, processing images to extract and recognize text across various document types.

Developers should choose this tool if they need OCR capabilities that run efficiently on consumer hardware without sacrificing recognition quality. It suits projects requiring document parsing, text extraction from images, and scenarios where cloud-based OCR services are impractical or undesirable. The project provides both the model weights and the underlying training infrastructure, allowing teams to fine-tune or adapt the system for domain-specific applications.

The project maintains active development with recent releases introducing specialized benchmarks for evaluating OCR performance on ancient texts, charts, and document parsing tasks. The team has published research contributions accepted to major computer vision conferences, demonstrating ongoing refinement of the approach. Infrastructure for reinforcement learning-based training and unified inference environments has been open-sourced alongside the core model, indicating investment in making the system accessible for both deployment and further research.
