Detailed Description

PlexAniSync is a synchronization tool that syncs anime watched in Plex to an AniList account.

The tool solves the problem of manually updating AniList when you manage your anime collection in Plex. It works by reading your Plex library to identify anime with at least one watched episode, then pushing those watch records to AniList. Only anime that have been watched are synced, and updates are sent only when changes occur, preventing accidental overwrites of your watch history. The tool recommends using Plex with the HAMA agent for accurate anime name matching.

The tool suits anyone who maintains an anime library in Plex and wants to keep their AniList profile current without manual data entry. It requires Python 3.9 or higher and supports multiple Plex libraries simultaneously. Setup involves configuring authentication for both Plex and AniList through a settings file. Plex authentication can be done via MyPlex (the simpler method) or direct authentication for advanced users. AniList authentication requires obtaining an access token through their OAuth endpoint. The tool includes a testing mode that allows you to verify synchronization without actually updating your AniList entries.

The project maintains active development with Docker support available through a separate workflow. The codebase is written in Python and the tool evolved from an earlier project that synced to MyAnimeList before that service closed its API.
