How this project is maintained

About 8% of issues opened in the past year have never received a reply. 84% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. Work labelled "disabled-test" is answered fastest, typically in under an hour, while "patch" waits about 2 weeks. 36% of tracked open issues have had no activity in three months. Only 59% of issues opened in the past year have been closed.

Detailed Description

TheRock is a build and release system for HIP and ROCm that integrates ROCm's components into a single buildable, testable, and releasable product.

TheRock addresses the complexity of building and distributing ROCm by replacing the previous monolithic release process with a modular workflow. It functions as a CMake super-project that orchestrates the compilation of HIP and ROCm source code while supporting builds of downstream projects like PyTorch and JAX. The system provides nightly releases and comprehensive CI/CD pipelines for building, testing, and releasing supported components across multiple Linux distributions and Windows.

Developers and researchers who need access to the latest ROCm capabilities without relying on traditional package-based installations should consider TheRock. It suits contributors working on individual ROCm components as well as advanced users requiring cutting-edge features. The tool is designed to simplify the integration and distribution of ROCm's modular architecture, making it easier to build and test components together rather than managing them separately.

The project maintains active development with regular nightly releases across multiple GPU architectures. A unified project status dashboard is available for tracking build and release progress. The team welcomes contributions and provides documentation including a FAQ and contributing guidelines to support new participants.
