Detailed Description

Chat2DB is a database client and SQL workspace that combines a full-featured SQL editor with an AI assistant for query generation and optimization.

The tool addresses the need for developers and data teams to work with multiple database systems through a single interface while leveraging AI to assist with SQL authoring. It runs locally on your machine, connecting to over forty database types including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, ClickHouse, MongoDB, Redis, and SQLite. The AI assistant integrates your own model to generate, explain, and optimize queries in natural language. Beyond SQL editing and execution, the tool provides database management capabilities including metadata browsing, table and object management, and in-place data editing, along with data import and export functionality, dashboards, charts, and ER diagram visualization.

Teams should adopt this tool if they work across multiple database systems and want to consolidate their tooling while adding AI-assisted query authoring. The desktop application runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux with no additional setup beyond downloading an installer. Docker deployment is also available for server environments. The project suits developers, DBAs, analysts, and data teams who want to keep their database interactions local and private while using their own AI models rather than relying on external services.

The project maintains a substantial user base, with almost all open issues raised by outside users rather than the core team. Responses to issues and pull requests typically arrive within one to two weeks. Work in the issue tracker centers on bug fixes and community edition features, with a distinction made between community and professional editions.
