Maintainer activity

1 person did triage or write work on this repository in the last 12 months.

Counts unlabeled, assigned, unassigned, milestoned, demilestoned, locked, unlocked over the last 12 months. These are issue and pull request events that require triage or write permission. Commits and code review are not counted. labeled and renamed are excluded because GitHub issue forms record the issue author as the actor. Figures from October 18, 2026. This count is not comparable across projects: each project's automation decides which of these events a person emits. How this is counted.

How this project is maintained

About 16% of issues opened in the past year have never received a reply. 98% of open issues come from outside the core team, so the backlog reflects real-world use rather than internal planning. 72% of tracked open issues have had no activity in three months, so the open count overstates what is actively being worked. Only 34% of issues opened in the past year have been closed. Three people close 64% of everything that gets resolved.

Detailed Description

OpenBoard is a cross-platform interactive whiteboard application designed for classroom use.

OpenBoard addresses the need for an open-source tool that teachers can use to create and deliver interactive lessons on interactive displays or touch-enabled devices. The application provides a canvas where educators can draw, write, and embed content directly on the board during instruction. It supports the creation and integration of web widgets—websites that can be placed and used directly within the board—allowing teachers to extend functionality with custom web applications. The tool includes a built-in web inspector for debugging these widgets.

The project suits educational institutions seeking a free, open-source alternative to proprietary whiteboard software. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Debian Linux, with native support for both x86 and ARM architectures on macOS. Teachers and developers who want to customize the application or create domain-specific widgets will find the source code available for modification. The README does not compare OpenBoard to other whiteboard solutions.

Development activity shows ongoing maintenance with parallel stable and development branches. The project accepts contributions across multiple areas including translations, web widget development, and core features. The codebase is written in C++ and can be compiled with Qt 6, though legacy Qt 5.15 support remains possible with minor adjustments. Community involvement extends beyond code to localization efforts, with the application available in numerous languages maintained by volunteer translators.
